Complete in three volumes. Sir Leslie Stephen was an English author, critic and mountaineer, father to Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell. Stephen served as editor to several publications on mountaineering whilst also writing volumes of philosophical, historical and biographical importance. Hours in a Library collects many of the essays of Sir Leslie Stephen which were published in periodicals such as the 'Cornhill Magazine'. Each essay sets a writer's work in its historical context, examining their philosophical and moral qualities and comparing authors to one another.
